The acknowledgement of the difficult infertility journey….

‘This bill would make it clear that the unplanned death of a foetus constitutes grounds for bereavement leave for the mother and her partner or spouse, and that the duration of the bereavement leave should be up to 3 days’  Ginny Andersen       New Zealand overall has a progressive approach when it comes to women’s rights issues….

In Australia, it is understood that women should access or apply for ‘sick leave’ which is usually 10 days each year for full-time employees, this debate is whether there should be specific additional leave for those that miscarry or are in fertility support journeys?

Compassion is needed across the board when it comes to our patients and additional leave for specific diagnosis or reasons is no doubt a complex issue and also one of equity, from a health economist perspective, recognition of pathology angle as well as support for the patient journey point of view.
